National Museum of Art (MUNAL)

Historic Center, Mexico City

Curious museum visitors can recognize the National Museum of Art a mile away by the large equestrian statue of Charles VI of Spain, who was the reining monarch over Mexico just before gaining independence. This beautiful museum houses more than 3,000 pieces of Mexican and international art from the 16th century to the first half of the 20th century. Some of its most famous artwork illustrate Mexico’s journey from a precolonial empire to the layman’s fight during the Mexican Revolution.
