Parque Nacional Iztaccíhuatl

Amecameca de Juárez, Estado de México

Although this National Park is home to two of the highest peaks in Mexico, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, there’s much more to explore than just these turbulent volcanoes. From the main entrance, Paso de Cortés, you can choose between six hiking trails that are easily signposted and accessible without a guide. Some trails allow you to take your dog and others are perfect for horse riding. One forest trail leads to Mount Tlaloc, a non-active volcano, which is considered the world’s highest temple site where you can discover Aztec ruins sitting at 4150m.
