Espacio Escultorico

Coyoacán, Mexico City

This sculpture opened on April 23, 1979 as part of a project by sculptor Federico Silva. It’s one of the most symbolic sites of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) as it captures the art of sculptures and the geometric sculptural movement that was popular in that era throughout Mexico. The espacio escultórico is surrounded by nature and sits on a platform built from volcanic stone and consists of a series of rectangular structures placed in a circle, which represents pre-Hispanic references about the cosmos. It’s free to visit and less than an hour away on the Metrobus Durango from El Caminero stop, close to Roma Norte.
